Tailored for whole Family

The skills acquired through drawing will improve many other important life and academic skills such as creativity, confidence, problem-solving, perseverance, focus, non-verbal communication, resiliency, collaboration, dedication and accountability.

Class size is limited to 6 – 8 students with 1 teacher, allowing for ample individual instruction.  A variety of projects are offered to match the student’s age and level.

the Basics & Beyond ~ Learn to Draw BETTER!
parents are Welcome too!

This class is best suited for older children or teens with little or no prior drawing instruction, as well drawing enthusiasts who wish to improve their technique . This 8-week class will cover basic fundamentals delve deeper into 3-D drawing (i.e., tone). Specific projects will be determined by student’s drawing abilities, past art education, and interests.

Right Brain Drawing for Teens

This comprehensive class will give preteens teens greater confidence in their drawing abilities and improve their visual-thinking and problem-solving skills as they learn to draw. Following the teaching methodology of Betty Edwards will allow students to access and develop essential right brain functions. Research has shown that students who study the arts, in general, develop 10 important skills for success in everyday life such as creativity, confidence, problem-solving, perseverance, focus, non-verbal communication, resiliency, collaboration, dedication and accountability (Phillips, 2010).

No drawing experience is necessary. This class 12-week class is designed for teens (in junior and senior high-school) who have no prior drawing instruction, as well as those who enjoy drawing and wish to improve their technique. Parents may take the class with their children at 50% off. Please call to inquire.

Sculpting & Mixed Media

This class is a unique combination of drawing and art lessons in the context of gem journals (2-dimensional art) AND sculpting (3-dimensional art).

So what is the difference between a journal and a gem journal? Journals become gem journals when you add depth, colour, and creativity through illustrations — such as photographs and embellishments of any kind). Using Aliki’s Seven-Step system for composing a journal page, budding artists will begin to explore, play, create and listen as they express themselves. Art journlaling is a wonderful process of drawing, collaging, writing and mixed media. Skills used in this class are easily transferable to schoolwork and projects. Studies show that studying via a combination of drawing and writing helps students retain concepts better.

Students will also be exposed to the process of sculpting as a means of extending their drawing skills to new art disciplines. Students will complete a variety of sculpting projects such as building their own Alberto Giacometti-inspired armature, creating a relief tile from Zentangle patterns and more! All sculptures are built from scratch using the same techniques and methodology as professional artists.
