Learn to Draw: Beyond the Basics for adults

Build confidence in your ability to capture what you see! This class is the perfect next step in your artistic journey.

We will review the basic drawing fundamentals (i.e, line, shape, form, space, texture, value, & colour) that we introduced in Part 1 and expand on these ideas while creating more complex, finished pieces. Then, we begin to look at principles of art (i.e., pattern, rhythm/movement, proportion/scale, balance, unity, & emphasis) and apply these concepts into our work. A variety of subjects, such as still life and landscapes, will be explored as will a multitude of media including pen, charcoal, oil & chalk pastel, coloured pencil and watercolour.

Materials are not included in the prices. A list will be provided by the instructor.

Day and Time:  Tuesdays 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Learning to sketch landscapes & render in colour for adults

Build confidence in your ability to capture what you see! This “beyond the basics” class teaches adults how to draw more gesturally and quickly while covering more complex colour theory. We will begin by practicing new techniques and colour theory on still life subjects, then work our way to sketching the landscape. You will learn to draw various natural elements including clouds, water, trees, and snow, as well as how to capture light in your sketches. Inspired by other artist’s renderings and reference photographs, we will produce small sketches and finished drawings using these techniques and media. Build upon your beginner skills and learn to capture what you see in a free and fun way that makes your drawings come to life!

Please bring your own sketchbook and materials. A list of materials will be provided by the instructor.

Pre-requisite: Basic knowledge of drawing vocabulary and techniques, and confidence required.
